The Art of Binding Government Officials with Information
When viewed from the perspective of public opinion, morality, ethics, and the law, those who preside over government have an obligation to protect the public health, and to put that first above all else. Certainly, there are many public officials who, in reality, are much more concerned about the "campaign contributions" coming in from lobbyists who work for businesses that profit from noise. However, even those scalawags are not foolish enough to come out publicly and admit that they have decided to place the profits of their benefactors over the well-being of the citizens who voted them into office. With their pockets stuffed with lobbyist treats, heretofore, our public officials have gotten around their obligation to protect us from intrusive sound by claiming that exposure to chronic noise is, at worst, a minor irritant that falls far short of rising to the level of a public health menace. However, now the proof is in, and no one can dispute the fact that noise is a dangerous pathogen and a severe threat to the public health. With the dangers of chronic noise now firmly established, our civic leaders have an obligation to protect us from noise, just as surely as they have a duty to protect us from lead poisoning and the contamination of our food. Therefore, the first step in getting the noise protection we are entitled to, is for each of us to inform everyone in our local governing bodies that noise is a dangerous pathogen. Once you know that they know that, you will then be in a position to go to step two, in which you demand the protection to which you are entitled.
