The First Rule of Anti-Noise Activism:

There is no sense in this becoming a movement of martyrs. Rather, we seek a cadre of well-balanced individuals who can sustain a lesser effort over a greater period of time.

The first rule of being an effective anti-noise activist, then, is to stay in your comfort zone, and select activities that make the best use of your style, talents, and unique abilities. Try to avoid activities that make you anxious and engage instead in forms of protest and education that you find less taxing.

Do not engage in protest to the extent that it disrupts your life, theatens your health, or imperils your relationships. Rather, take on a lesser burden that you can sustain over time.

Better yet, if possible, find an entertaining intervention that energizes you and pursue it with your friends as a fun, leisure-time activity. There is no doubt that it can be done. After all, more than a few laughs have been had by activists engaged in the act of exposing the negligence and malfeasance of their local authority figures.

We live in a world in which a devastating health hazard is portrayed by ignorant and/or corrupt public officials as an insignificant inconvenience, where people working to protect the public health are regarded as trouble-making malcontents and the police are routinely sent out to protect the law breakers and intimidate any law-abiding citizens who attempt to shield their families from the abuse.

It is an absurd situation which we are forced to take seriously. So don't worry, be happy to the extent that such a thing is possible with a flood of external noise saturating every inch of your domicile - and do your best to make your activist activities an enjoyable experience. You know, a little more Monty Python and a little less Attila the Hun.
